Committee Statement - Changes to the New Season
Dear North East Wales Netball Association Members,
Thank you for those of you who emailed with concerns about changes to the new season and apologies for the delay in getting back to you all.
The committee met to review responses last night and would like to update you with the following information:
We are still unclear about who will be returning next season. We welcome the commencement of the Wrexham league but would like to ensure that Wrexham teams know that they are still welcome to join the league running across Flintshire in Deeside, Mold and Hope Leisure Centres.
Unfortunately we cannot keep the play nights the same as last season. We have looked into a variety of ways of running the league and believe that the change is in the best interest of ensuring our core aims of promoting and improving the standard of netball whilst supporting and developing playing opportunities for players of all abilities. To this end the reasons for changes are to:
1. Ensure the first division is of the highest competitive standards to assist teams that are just below this standard to have increased competition time to help improve their level of play.
2. The decision to increase the number of teams in the second division to 10 teams should assist in narrowing the gap of performance level between the first and second divisions by creating more opportunity for teams to play at a higher standard as well as increasing the number of games available across the season.
3. The 3rd & 4th divisions playing at Deeside on a Monday night should encourage 1st & 2nd division player/umpires to help improve standards within these divisions by creating opportunities for them to umpire on a night that is not their play night.
4. Further consideration has been given to creating a division for a school development league - as the junior league finishes in school year 10 it is felt that some Y11/12 school age players would benefit from a league running in their age group before moving into adult teams in divisions 1-5.
5. Danielle Gilsenan has taken up the position of 'North East Wales Netball Association Schools’ Representative' on the committee and this will potentially be something that can be managed along with the schools association and the Netball Development Officer (NDO).
Once again we welcome club/team entries from all who can continue to play in the NEWNA’s League this season and look forward to seeing you at the League Entry meeting on the 7th August 6.30pm in Deeside Leisure Centre.
Kind regards,
NEWNA Committee

- As a committee we see change as an opportunity to create a better league for everyone. Again as we are unsure which teams will be returning, we are anticipating that there may be gaps across all divisions.
- The committee has decided to run a tournament at the commencement of the 2017-18 season to place clubs/teams in divisions for the new season.
- First division teams including the two teams due to be promoted will retain their 1st division status.
- Further details to follow however the date is likely to be Sunday 3rd September 2017.
- This is in response to a number of teams feeding back that they felt that their standard of play would be better matched to a higher division standard and to ensure that fairness is applied to all clubs and teams entering the NEWNA’s League this season.
- All players affiliated to the North East Wales Netball Association are eligible for selection for their county teams.
- County Coach and team manager nominations can be tendered in December 2017, for appointment in January 2018.
Once again we welcome club/team entries from all who can continue to play in the NEWNA’s League this season and look forward to seeing you at the League Entry meeting on the 7th August 6.30pm in Deeside Leisure Centre.

Committee Statement - SMART
As a new incoming committee, we would like to reassure all members who play in the North-East Wales Netball League that decisions that we take are:
S – specific so that we can create a competitive league that can be enjoyed by all
M – measurable and motivational by using the facilities that best suit netballers; monitoring of teams, umpiring and officials to continue to develop the league
A – the action that we have taken was agreed upon, is attainable and achievable.
R - realistic, relevant and results-oriented
T – trackable and timely
The meeting held by the North-East Wales Netball Association committee was productive, measured and in line with progress and development in the area.
We have started to create a long term plan to embrace the teams that have requested to join our league and to help the continued development of the league for all members.
The decision to move the Divisions 1 & 2 to different nights was for several reasons:

The meeting held by the North-East Wales Netball Association committee was productive, measured and in line with progress and development in the area.
We have started to create a long term plan to embrace the teams that have requested to join our league and to help the continued development of the league for all members.
The decision to move the Divisions 1 & 2 to different nights was for several reasons:
- Deeside Leisure Centre: We have been allocated the same times on a Monday night 8-10.30 on both halls & Tuesday night 7- 10.30 on Hall 2 and 8-10 on Hall 1.
- This has enabled to look closely at the quality of games in the divisions.
- There is a large gap between the top and bottom of Division 1 so after lots of deliberation and reasoning the committee decided that it would be advantageous to extend Division 2 to 10 teams and use the extra time allocated to the league on a Tuesday evening.
- This would enable those teams coming up from Division 3 and those coming down from Division 1 with the addition of 2 further teams (dependent on standard) to participate.
- Alternating the 1st and 2nd Division on a Tuesday night will provide the committee to monitor not only the standard of the teams in the Divisions but also to assess umpires who are progressing or regressing and then allocate the appropriate support required.
- Standardisation is key to the development of players and officials in the area.
- The Divisions 3 & 4 playing on a Monday night will also enable player/umpires from 1st & 2nd Divisions, who have previously been unable to officiate on these games (due to playing at the same time) to help the standard of these divisions to progress.
- As all divisions at Deeside will be playing on alternate weeks this should not be too disruptive to training times for the majority (there have always been some teams who trained on a Monday & Tuesday night who adjusted to enable them to play in the league)
- With regard to the earlier start time of 7pm for Division 2 this will suit some teams who do not like late finishes, we have ensured that there are only 1/2 7pm starts throughout the season. If teams are definitively unable to play the early fixture then we will try to amend this fixture. (This has been achieved for Colwyn Bay, Div. 1 previously as they played in another league on a Monday night)
- Division 5 on a Monday night playing from 7.30pm – 10pm, will be formatted the same as the 3rd Division was last season; again 1st & 2nd Division players, officials etc will be better placed to help with this Division.
- Moving all the divisions around will also help us to set up a New Division 6 at Castell Alun for all the back to netball teams that have expressed an interest in entering the league.
