NETBALL UPDATE
Hello netballers
Finally, after the restrictions of the last 18 months we are moving into a period of change that will allow us to get back to the sport that we all love to play.
August is the time when we are thinking about getting ready for our Netball Season and 2021 -22, although will be challenging for us all with the covid virus still not totally eradicated, will be a new beginning and an opportunity to ‘Build Back Better’.
Welsh Netball membership window will open on Tuesday 24th August 2021, the membership categories have changed and WN have set-up a new system to make the affiliation process easier, and the England netball membership window is already open for members to start the affiliation process.
The Deeside Leisure Centre is scheduled to be open in the Autumn of 2021, (following on from its Nightingale hospital obligation) with the expected Sports Hall refurbishment completed late October. The ice rink will remain with the Betsi Cadwaladr Health Board Trust until the situation with the pandemic becomes clearer.
It is anticipated that both the Junior and Adult netball leagues will resume after the October half-term school break. Committees will be meeting towards the end of the month to finalise dates for the resumption of the indoor leagues, and work with the facility provider to ensure and understand any restrictions that maybe in place.
Here’s hoping that you are enjoying the Summer as we look forward to welcoming you back to a season of netball, and with the Commonwealth Games being held in Birmingham in 2022 on the horizon it is time to look forward to our sport returning to exciting times now and in the future.

From a founder member of the North-East Wales Netball Association
Clwyd Women’s Netball Association.
Prior to 1977 there was no formal netball association in North Wales. Those players who had achieved County and North Wales standard at schoolgirl level had very few opportunities to play serious netball once they had left school. A number of sports centres, notably Buckley, Flint, Deeside, Plas Madoc and Queens Park ran netball leagues on a fun basis, but for anything more competitive and committed, players from North Wales had to look to the leagues across the border in Cheshire and Wirral
It was one of those players who foresaw the need for a County association and it was during the summer of 1977 that the first Clwyd women’s netball team was formed.
