North East Wales Netball Association
Clwyd Women’s Netball Association
From a founder member of the North-East Wales Netball Association
Clwyd Women’s Netball Association.
Prior to 1977 there was no formal netball association in North Wales. Those players who had achieved County and North Wales standard at schoolgirl level had very few opportunities to play serious netball once they had left school. A number of sports centres, notably Buckley, Flint, Deeside, Plas Madoc and Queens Park ran netball leagues on a fun basis, but for anything more competitive and committed, players from North Wales had to look to the leagues across the border in Cheshire and Wirral
It was one of those players who foresaw the need for a County association and it was during the summer of 1977 that the first Clwyd women’s netball team was formed.
